I traveled to Hawaii with my mom, a place which I associate with tranquility and peace. I was aware for a moment that my mom really wasn’t alive anymore, but then I realized she returned to life and was able to take this trip with me.
I realized I forgot to pack or wear any jewelry except for the bracelet on my arm. I felt naked without my adornments and there was a lot of discussion about ways to have someone send me a package of the jewelry.
We knew we only had two nights to stay there so we entered a lottery which could result in us being able to extend our stay. As I inquired about the lottery outcome, I happened to see my acupuncturist who was also waiting for the results. It turned out the lottery was for a different vacation, and there were plenty of openings for us to stay longer. We were relieved that we could stay longer and the nakedness without jewelry concerns faded away.
We were staying on a very high floor in a hotel, and my mom was sitting on the lanai. Suddenly a huge wage from the ocean was in our unit, thankfully it wasn’t a lot of water and we were fine. In my mind, I saw images of the tsunami in Japan and in Thailand years ago, but I didn’t dare articulate my fears, knowing they would only come true if the words were spoken.
